Choosing your lighting
What is the difference between warm white and cool white?
Warm white (around 3000K) gives a soft, yellow toned light that feels cosy. Cool white (around 6000K) gives a crisp, blue toned light. Natural white (4000K) sits in between and is a popular choice for kitchen worktops. See our colour temperature guide.
What is colour temperature?
Colour temperature describes how warm or cool white light looks, measured in Kelvin (K). The lower the number, the warmer the light. Most home lighting sits between 2700K and 6000K. Colour temperature explained.
Which is brighter, cool white or warm white?
Cool white often looks slightly brighter to the eye, but brightness is measured in lumens, not colour. To compare two lights, check the lumen figure on each product page.
What colour light is best for a kitchen?
Natural white (4000K) is the most popular choice for worktops because it is clear without feeling cold. Warm white (3000K) suits traditional and wooden kitchens. TrioTone® lights let you choose on the day. Light temperatures for kitchen worktops.
What is the difference between single colour, TrioTone® and CCT lights?
Single colour lights have one fixed white. TrioTone® lights let you choose warm, natural or cool white when you fit them. CCT lights let you change the colour at any time, typically from 2700K to 6000K, using a CCT receiver or smart driver. About CCT.
Should I use spotlights or LED strip under kitchen cabinets?
Spotlights give defined pools of light. LED strip gives an even line of light with fewer shadows and can be cut to length. Read our under cabinet lighting guide.
LED strip lights
How long do LED strip lights last?
Good quality LED strip lasts many years in normal home use, far longer than traditional bulbs. Every Sensio LED strip comes with a 7 year guarantee. See our LED strip lights.
Do LED strip lights use a lot of electricity?
No. LED strip uses very little power compared with traditional lighting. The power use, in watts per metre, is shown on each product page.
Can you cut LED strip lights?
Yes, at the marked cut points along the strip. Cutting anywhere else will stop that section working. How to cut, connect, fit and wire LED strip lights.
Video: How to cut, connect and fit LED strip lights
How do you power LED strip lights?
Sensio 24V LED strip connects to a 24V LED driver, which is connected to mains power. Some integrated strip lights, such as Connex™ and Axis™, run directly from mains. See 24V LED drivers.
What is an aluminium profile?
An aluminium profile is a channel that LED strip sits in. It hides the individual dots of light for a smooth line, protects the strip and helps it run cooler. See LED profiles.
How do you remove LED strip lights?
Switch off the power, unplug the strip from its connector, then peel it away slowly. Warming the adhesive with a hairdryer helps if it is stubborn. Strip fitted in a profile slides or unclips out.
Drivers and power
What is an LED driver?
An LED driver converts mains power (230V) into the low voltage power LED lights need, which is 24V for most Sensio lights. Without the right driver, the lights won't work or may fail early. What is an LED driver and how to choose one.
Do I need a driver for my lights?
Most Sensio lights run at 24V and need a driver. A few integrated strip lights, such as Connex™ and Axis™, run directly from mains and don't need one.
Which LED driver do I need?
Single colour and TrioTone® lights use 2-pin drivers. CCT lights use 4-pin drivers. Add up the wattage of your lights and choose a driver with enough capacity; our driver calculator does this for you.
How do I install a 24V LED driver?
Sensio 24V lights plug into the driver, so no wiring is needed on the light side. The mains connection must be made by a qualified electrician. How to install a 24V LED driver.

Can I use Sensio lights with another brand's driver?

Sensors and control
How do PIR motion sensors work?
A PIR (passive infrared) sensor detects the body heat of a person moving nearby and switches the lights on, then off again after a set time. See PIR sensors.
Which sensor do I need for kitchens and wardrobes?
Door sensors switch lights on when a cupboard or wardrobe door opens. Hand wave (IR) sensors give touch free switching, and PIR sensors react to movement in a room. Which LED light sensor do you need?.
