12V LED lighting for caravans, motorhomes, boats and lodges

LED lighting in a caravan interior

If your caravan, motorhome, boat or lodge already has a 12V supply, you can light it with 12V LED strip, spotlights, reading lights and plinth lights that run straight from that supply, with no mains driver.

Sensio's 12V range is made for leisure spaces where a 12V supply is already in place. This guide covers the strips, spotlights, reading lights and plinth light in the range, what each one is for, and how to choose. Shop the full 12V LED lighting range.

12V LED strip

LED strip suits under cabinet, shelf, locker and lounge lighting. All three of our 12V strips come on a 5m reel, are 8mm wide, fix with VHB adhesive tape and are IP20 rated for indoor use.

Primo 12V is the economical choice. It has 120 LEDs per metre and gives 405 lumens per metre at 3.6W per metre, so it draws little power from a leisure battery. It comes in warm white (2700K), natural white (4000K) or cool white (5000K), and is cut at marked points every 100mm.

Polar X 12V is a COB strip. Chip on Board packs 512 LEDs into every metre, so the light is a continuous line with no visible dots. It gives 600 lumens per metre at 6W per metre, runs cool, and can be cut anywhere along its length. It comes in warm, natural or cool white.

Polar X Pro 12V is the colour adjustable version of Polar X, with the same 600 lumens per metre at 6W per metre. The colour temperature adjusts from 2700K warm to 6000K cool, so you can change the light through the day.

If you want the strip in a profile to diffuse it and give it a neat finish, Fino is a surface mounted aluminium profile and Linia is a recessed one. Both work with any Sensio flexible strip. For more on strip types, read COB vs SMD LED strip and what is an LED profile.

12V spotlights: Léa and Laure TrioTone

Léa TrioTone and Laure TrioTone are slimline 12V spotlights for under cabinet and locker lighting. TrioTone lets you choose warm (2700K), natural (4000K) or cool white (6000K) with a flick of a switch, so the same light works for cooking, reading or relaxing.

Léa is 75.3mm across and 8mm deep. Laure is 71.3mm across and 8.3mm deep. Both have a 120 degree beam and a magnetic mounting plate that hides the fixings. A removable collar lets you surface mount or recess them. Both come in stainless steel or black.

Each is also available with a touch sensor: Léa TrioTone with Touch Sensor and Laure TrioTone with Touch Sensor. Tap to switch on, and tap and hold to adjust the brightness.

12V reading lights: Eva, Ema, Ana and Jade

All four reading lights give warm white light at 3000K, enough for reading without lighting the whole space. All have a matte black finish, a compact round base and are IP20 rated.

Ana is the most compact at 115mm, with a swivel head and a touch switch that also adjusts brightness. It draws 2W and gives 148 lumens. It suits bunks and tight spaces.

Jade is 120mm, with a swivel head, a switch that turns it on and off and adjusts brightness, and a built-in USB-C charging port for a phone or tablet. It gives 123 lumens.

Ema has a flexible arm at 380mm, a touch switch that adjusts brightness and a built-in USB-A charging port. It gives 202 lumens, the most of the four.

Eva is 395mm with a swivel head and a simple rocker switch. It gives 132 lumens.

Pick Ana or Jade for bunks, Ema for a bedside where you want to charge a phone from a USB-A port, Jade for USB-C, and Eva for a simple, longer reading light.

12V plinth light: Mia

Mia is a small 12V plinth light with a decorative blue glow. At 15mm x 15mm x 24.5mm it sits almost unnoticed in a plinth board, step or floor level edge, and gives a soft wash of blue along the floor. The fittings can be daisy chained, so a run of several lights can be wired from one point. It is IP20 rated.

How to choose for each space

Kitchen area. Polar X 12V under the wall lockers for a continuous line, or Léa or Laure TrioTone spotlights if you want to choose the white.

Lounge and dinette. Polar X Pro 12V along a shelf or pelmet lets you move from cool to warm white in the evening.

Bedroom and bunks. A reading light by each bed: Ana or Jade where space is tight, Ema or Eva where there is room for a longer arm.

Steps and floors. Mia in the plinth or step edge.

Lockers and wardrobes. Primo 12V is economical on a leisure battery. For wardrobes with no wiring at all, see our rechargeable lights and battery and rechargeable LED strip guide.

12V or 24V?

Use the 12V range where a 12V supply is already in place. If a lodge or park home has mains power and you are fitting kitchen or bedroom lighting, our 24V range runs from a Sensio 24V LED driver. The 24V side is plug and play, and the driver's mains connection should be made by a qualified electrician. Read 12V or 24V LED strip lights for the difference.

For the bathroom, see our battery LED mirrors for caravans, lodges and park homes.

Primo 12V, Polar X 12V, Polar X Pro 12V, Léa, Laure, Mia, Eva, Ema, Ana and Jade are covered by the Sensio 7 year guarantee.
