Choose a round mirror to soften a bathroom full of straight lines, and a rectangular mirror when you want the most reflection for the wall space; in both cases, pick a width that matches or sits slightly narrower than your basin.
Round or rectangular: the quick answer
Round mirrors break up the straight lines of tiles, vanity units and shower screens. They work well above a single basin and in smaller rooms, where a softer shape feels less boxy.
Rectangular mirrors give you more glass for the same width, so you see more of yourself. They suit family bathrooms, where people of different heights share the mirror, and wider vanities.
Between the two sit a range of softer shapes: soft rectangle, arch, pill, oval, pebble and soft square. These give you the height of a rectangle with the gentler look of a round mirror.

Rectangular and soft-edged mirrors
A rectangle is the most practical shape for everyday use. You get the widest reflection, and portrait sizes from 390mm x 500mm up to 600mm x 800mm cover small to standard basins.
Soft rectangles keep the same proportions with rounded corners. The Mistral Soft Rectangle comes in 400mm x 600mm or 500mm x 700mm, and the Luna Soft Rectangle is 600mm x 800mm.
Arches and pills are taller and narrower, usually 500mm x 800mm. They add height to a room and suit a narrow basin or a wall between two cabinets. The Nebula Pill also comes in a larger 600mm x 1000mm size. For something different, the Aura Pebble has a pebble shape at 550mm x 800mm, and the Maris Soft Square and Aura Soft Square are 600mm x 600mm.

What size mirror for your basin?
Our mirror size guide uses a simple rule: choose a mirror that matches the basin width or is slightly narrower.
- Small basins (40cm to 50cm), common in downstairs toilets and en-suites: a mirror between 35cm and 45cm wide.
- Standard basins (around 60cm): a mirror around 55cm to 60cm wide.
- Larger basins (around 80cm): a mirror around 75cm to 80cm wide.
For height, the same guide suggests the mirror extends 30cm to 35cm above and below the eye line of the average user. That usually means a height of 70cm to 100cm. In a family bathroom, a taller mirror suits people of different heights.
Round mirrors follow the same width rule. A 600mm round mirror suits a standard basin, and an 800mm round mirror suits a larger basin.
For a double basin, you can fit one large mirror across both or two mirrors, one above each basin. Two matching round or pill mirrors create symmetry.
Check the space before you buy
- Measure the wall between tiles, cabinets, wall lights and the ceiling.
- Check the depth. Our mirrors range from slim frameless designs to framed models, so check the dimensions on each product page.
- Mains mirrors are IP44 rated for bathroom zone 2 and must be wired in by a qualified electrician. Check the position with our bathroom zones guide.
- Most of our round and shaped mirrors fix with a French cleat bracket. Some, like the Aspect Round TrioTone®, hang on keyhole fixings.
Every Sensio bathroom mirror carries our 7 year guarantee. Mirror glass is guaranteed for 12 months, excluding accidental damage.
Mirror shape and size FAQs
Is a round mirror good for a small bathroom?
Yes. A round mirror softens the straight lines of a small room. Our round mirrors start at 500mm across. Choose one that matches your basin width or is slightly narrower.
What size round mirror do I need for a 60cm basin?
Our size guide suggests a mirror around 55cm to 60cm wide for a 60cm basin, so a 600mm round mirror is a good match.
What is the difference between a pill and an arch mirror?
A pill mirror is rounded at both the top and bottom. An arch mirror is rounded at the top with a flat base. Ours are mostly 500mm x 800mm.
Can I get a round mirror with storage?
Yes. The Zinnia Round and Aurelia Round are 600mm round LED mirror cabinets with shelves behind the mirrored door.
Do round mirrors come in battery versions?
Yes. The Lustro Round and Lumino Round are 600mm battery operated round mirrors that need no wiring. See our guide to lithium-ion vs AA battery mirrors.
