Bedroom and Wardrobe Lighting Ideas

Good bedroom lighting does two jobs. Inside wardrobes and drawers it helps you see what you need, and around the room it sets a calm, relaxing mood. Here are our ideas for every part of the bedroom, plus answers to common questions.

1. Wardrobe lights that switch on with the door

Fit LED strip inside the wardrobe and pair it with a sensor, so the light comes on as you open the door and goes off when you close it. The Titan+ Door Sensor activates with the opening of a door, and the Titan+ Wireless Door Sensor does the same without a cable to the sensor. A Titan+ PIR Sensor switches the light on as you approach, which suits walk-in wardrobes.

Slim strips such as Neutron (3.5mm wide) fit discreetly into wardrobe frames and profiles, and free-cut strips such as Polar X can be cut to the exact width of each wardrobe.

2. Rechargeable wardrobe lights with no wiring

For existing wardrobes, or where there is no power, rechargeable battery lights add light without any wiring. Opus, Magnum, Alto and Incline have a PIR sensor so they light up when you open the door, and Strata has dual control. See the battery lighting range.

3. Drawer lighting

Light inside drawers makes it easy to find things in a dark bedroom. Verso is a natural white LED drawer light with an IR sensor, so it switches on as the drawer opens. Browse drawer and shelf lighting.

4. Shelf and display lighting

Illuminated shelves show off books, photos and ornaments. Glow and Glow Pro clip onto glass shelves, Genoa is an integrated LED shelf profile, and Torino is an illuminated wall shelf.

5. Feature walls and headboards

Strip lighting behind a headboard, along a media wall or under a floating unit adds a soft glow. CCT strips such as Ion 5 and Radiant Pro let you move from warm to cool white, and Flux adds colour changing for a feature. Diffused silicone strips such as Delta give a smooth line of light with no visible dots.

6. Choose a warm colour of light

Warm white (around 3000K) is the most relaxing choice for a bedroom. Inside wardrobes, natural or cool white can help you see true colours when choosing clothes. CCT lights let you change between the two. See CCT technology.

Frequently asked questions

How do I light the inside of a wardrobe?

Fit LED strip or a profile along the top or sides of the wardrobe, connect it to a driver, and add a door or PIR sensor so it switches on automatically. Or use a rechargeable battery light with a built-in sensor.

Can I add wardrobe lighting without wiring?

Yes. Our rechargeable battery lights need no wiring and most have a PIR sensor, so they come on when the wardrobe opens.

What colour light is best for a bedroom?

Warm white for a relaxing room, with natural or cool white inside wardrobes if you want to see clothes clearly. CCT strips let you choose.

How do wardrobe lights switch on automatically?

With a sensor. A door sensor reacts when the door opens, and a PIR sensor reacts to movement. On our Titan+ drivers the sensor simply plugs into the driver.

Can I cut LED strip to fit my wardrobe?

Yes, at the marked cut points, or anywhere along a free-cut strip. See how to cut, join and install LED strip.
