Acoustic Panel Lighting: How to Light Slat Wall Panels with LED

Flex silicone LED profile for acoustic panel lighting

Acoustic slat wall panels are now a regular feature in living rooms, bedrooms, offices and media walls. Adding a line of LED light to the panels turns them from a sound treatment into a design feature. This guide explains how to do it neatly, using a flexible silicone LED profile with the strip already built in.

What is acoustic panel lighting?

Acoustic panel lighting is a continuous line of LED light fitted to, or set into, acoustic wall or ceiling panels. Done well, you see an even line of light with no visible LED dots, and no bulky aluminium channel.

Why use a flexible silicone profile?

Rigid aluminium profiles are made in fixed lengths and have to be cut and joined, which is slow on panel work. Our Flex with Polar X Pro is a flexible silicone profile with a Polar X Pro adjustable white (CCT) LED strip already built in. It is designed for acoustic panels and for recessed or surface mounted installations.

  • Cut to any length: trim it on site to fit each panel run.
  • Easy push fit: with VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive tape backing.
  • Supplied on a 5m reel: rather than in rigid lengths, which saves space in the van.
  • Black or white: to suit dark or light panels.
  • 24V: for long runs of light without light fade.

Surface mounted or recessed?

Flex comes in three editions, so you can choose the finish that suits the panel and the build:

  • 13mm and 19mm editions: for surface mounting or recessing.
  • 16mm winged edition: for a flush recessed finish. The wings sit over the edge of the recess.

Which colour of light?

The built-in Polar X Pro strip is adjustable white (CCT), so you can move between warm and cool white, from 2700K to 6500K. Warm white suits living rooms and bedrooms in the evening, and cooler white suits offices and workspaces. Read more in our colour temperature guide and our CCT technology page.

Drivers and control

Flex runs at 24V, so it needs an LED driver. To change the colour temperature, dim and zone the lights, pair it with our CCT Receiver and Remote Control, or a Titan Smart Kinetic CCT driver for app and voice control. Use our driver calculator, or read what size LED driver do I need?, to size the driver for your run. Any connection to mains power must be made by a qualified electrician.
